“Make good songs, and people will find them and listen.”
Super fun duo, Maniac, has the talent and the passion to get noticed in this over-saturated world of music. The two started out in separate bands, but came together and served up a tall glass of catchy, inspired songs. Their recent release, Mania, comes with a refreshing sound and enthusiastic new beginning. In each song, you can hear the excitement that Jake Grigg and Shawn Harris share on their new venture. I love coming across music that instantly makes me happy and this is one of the bands that can achieve that. Here is my interview with Jake and Shawn. [click through for the rest of the article]
Not currently, although I’ve definitely thought about it. Problem is that I’m somewhere between a D and double D cup (with a fairly small frame), so sports bras and ace bandages can only do so much, and anything fancy is probably out of my price range at the moment.
First class of the semester tomorrow morning. Gross.
Should probably go to bed now, especially considering how much walking I did today. (I was all over the place. Walked from my dorm to Union Square to the Highline to the West side waterfront to the SVA dorms to back to my dorm and a bunch of other places in between. If I did the math right, it was roughly around 8 and a half miles.)
Last thing I'm going to say about the Jo Calderone issue, because frankly I'm tired of talking about it but I thought this was interesting.
Isn’t it a bit police-y for so many people (especially those in the queer community) to assume that Gaga was doing this just for attention and shock value? It may be a long shot, but what if this male persona is a legitimate part of her personality? To me it seemed pretty obvious from Jo’s monologue that it was some strange form of externalization of Gaga’s personal relationship problems, plus this:
There’s something else to be said there, but I’m tired and can’t quite put my finger on it.
Also, it’s not like she just woke up that morning and went “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if I was a sleazy guy for the VMAs?” This character has been around since around this time last year, and in fact, it wasn’t until much later that she actually owned up to it being her. (Actually, did she ever flat-out state that she was Jo? I don’t think so. But obviously it has been established without a doubt that he is an alter ego of hers) Despite fans and media sources figuring out almost immediately that the new model featured on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan was almost definitely Gaga in drag, both Nick Knight (the shoot’s photographer) and Jo himself would only state that Jo and Gaga had met at one of Nick’s shoots and that was their only connection. Since Vogue Hommes Japan isn’t really one of the most mainstream magazines out there, and I don’t remember Gaga herself ever mentioning the shoot, a small part of me wonders if she was just trying to see if she could pass.
…or maybe I’ve just been thinking about this way too much. Probably that. I’ll shut up now.
